UA Student Charged in Threat Investigation

UA THREAT INVESTIGATION SUSPECT

University of Alabama student Daniel Evan Simmons is charged with with making a terrorist threat. The 19-year-old was arrested by the University of Alabama Police Department, and the charges stem from an investigation into a threat targeting members of the University's greek system. The threat was made via YouTube. But, Simmons is not believed to be directly connected with the initial intimidating post that was sent on Sunday night, Sept. 21st.

Demopolis teen injured in bull-riding accident getting better

Jacob Browder is on the road to recovery.

The Demopolis teen, who was injured in a bull-riding accident earlier this month, is now awake and undergoing three types of therapy twice a day.

“Every day we see him doing something more positive and something different,” said his mother, Susan Browder. “He does thumbs up for “yes” and thumbs down for “no”. He's said the word “no” so far and he mumbles a little bit.”

Browder’s mother said it’s the prayers from people around the state that have triggered her son’s tremendous progress. ...Read more

Authorities searching for missing Clanton teens

Authorities are searching for two missing teenage girls who were last seen in Clanton. The Alabama Department of Public Safety says Kyndell Brooke East and Jana Lynn Cowan, both 14, were last seen Sunday around exit 205 on Interstate 65 in south Clanton. Authorities believe the girls could be trying to get to Moody, where Cowan's biological mother lives. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Alabama Bureau of Investigation or the Chilton County Sheriff's Office. 

Alabama State University under warning by accrediting agency

TUSCALOOSA – Alabama State University said they’re prepared for a campus visit from the school’s accrediting agency in October. On Friday, ASU president Gwendolyn Boyd told school members that the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools officials will evaluate the school’s health during its visit. Boyd told the board that the university is three months into a six-month warning status from the accrediting agency. She said the warning cited issues with financial stability, control of funds and conflicts of interests by trustees. ...Read more

Man stabbed following drunken argument over religion in Tuscaloosa

A man is put behind bars after stabbing another man in the throat early Saturday morning after an alcohol induced argument.

In addition to the stab wounds, 44-year-old David Defoor cut the 24-year-old victim several times in the chest, said investigators.  The incident took place on Holt-Peterson Road.

The victim and his girlfriend were visiting the location with a friend. Defoor began to argue religion with the victim when the situation became violent.   ...Read more

Department Stores to Hire Thousands of Workers for Holiday Season

Major U.S. department stores will add the most jobs since 1999 during the upcoming holiday season. Stores will add 800,000 jobs this fall according to jobs placement firm, Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc.. Stores such as Walmart, Target and Macy’s are expected to hire thousands of workers. Financial consultants estimate sales will increase by 4 to 4.5 percent from last year.

Charles Henderson High School football player dies

An Alabama high school football player has died after collapsing on the field during a game. Authorities said 17-year-old cornerback Demario Harris collapsed during the second quarter of Friday night’s game in Troy. The Charles Henderson High School student died in the hospital yesterday, authorities said. One coach told AL.com that Harris made a tackle, got up, jogged about 10 yards, had a seizure and collapsed.
